Sparkling Wine for the Holidays: The Best of 2021

Bottles of sparkling wine

I love Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, and sparkling wines! They all tickle my nose when I drink them. Do you know which one you want to offer this holiday season? Let us help you decide.

What is Sparkling Wine and How Can It Be Served

Sparkling wine is a wine with high levels of carbon dioxide in it, therefore, making it fizzy. Some have fine bubbles, and some have larger bubbles, keeping in mind they are still in a glass, so not so large! One of the things I like about sparkling wines for the holidays is the versatility of how you offer them. You can create a Champagne cocktail, serve it with a strawberry in it, with orange juice at brunch, on its own with desert, and of course, as a drink to toast the holidays.

How to Choose the Best Sparkling Wine for Your Holidays 2021

Usually the first consideration is the price. Decide how much of your budget you want to spend on this part of the festivities. Keep that in mind as these different sparkling wines come in all price points. The second consideration is how are you going to serve it? Are you looking to add some sparkling to a cocktail or with juice for brunch? If so, then you don’t need to spend a lot of money on your sparkling since it will be mostly for the bubbles.

Look at a Prosecco from Italy or a Cava from Spain for some of their great values on wine holidays 2021. If you are serving it with a sweet desert, a dry sparkling will help balance the sweetness of the desert. If you want to have a sparkling on its own, then you want to taste something you will really like on its own. I, personally, love a Blanc de Noir Champagne if I am going to drink it on its own. A Blanc de Noir means the Champagne is usually made of Pinot Noir grapes. A Blanc de Blanc is usually made of Chardonnay grapes.

Another option to consider is your local sparkling wine. In Ontario, we have some great selections of sparkling wines to discover. I find them well made, with lots of taste, some fine bubbles and thoroughly enjoyable. Take a look at your local wine store for some of your local sparkling wines.
